July 13th, 2007 AAAIIGGHH!! Friday the 13th!

I'm currently writing the theme for AAAAAH! Indie Horror Hits, Volume 1 of which is coming to DVD September 2007!! Check out the website at www.aaaaah-films.com. Finished production on singer/songwriter Nomi Rakaposhi's patriotic song, "Canada, We Stand For Thee", which you can hear at his myspace site. I'll be beginning the music for an episode of director Steve Hutton's (Most Guys Today, Fluff) series, "Playing the Game" in Fall.

I took a 'break' from 'The Uninvited' to score the unusual and Gilliams-esque 'The Part of The Man', directed by Kevin Greene. Shot on 35mm on a grant from Panasonic, this 22 minute film looks and sounds great, with a great cast and a fun, twisted plot with lots of dark humor. It was a great challenge to work on this film; Kevin Greene had me stretching the usual boundaries of style, mixing frantic tribal drumming with 80's synth pop and North African instrumentation. I'm very pleased with how this project turned out, and am excited for it to hit the festival circuit. Now, I am back for the home stretch of the score for 'The Uninvited'. The final mix will clock in at around 50 minutes or orchestral music, the longest score I have composed, and another fantastic challenge of my skills.

Welcome to the New Year!2006 wrapped up nicely - a very busy and successful year all around. Currently, I'm working on a feature film called 'The Uninvited' - a thriller shot in Chicago, Il. by TwoPunk Productions. I was very impressed by the script, and the film is turning out to be a very fun and creative challenge to score. Look for this feature in the festival circuits whithin this year! On the performing side of things, I am rehearsing with new indie-rock collective The Kindhearted Bankers. The tunes are shaping up, and we'll be gigging in the Toronto area by Summer. Finally, look for a complete overhaul to the website, which will be up and running within the next two months... a new look for a new year!

Completed work on Mark Bochsler's 'Tea with Mother', a short film based on a screenplay by Toronto author Michael Mortensen. It was a gruelling schedule and very challenging work, but I'm very happy with the results! I'm beginning work on a very interesting feature film titled 'Starport Oberon'. It's a Sci-Fi-Drama which will be shot primarily on green-screen, and I'm getting to write very exciting, sweeping orchestral music for it. It's still in pre-production, and I'm working on themes and sketches for the time being. Great news for 'Dust of the Earth', which has been doing the festival circuit: it has recently won BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD at the FirstGlance Philadelphia Film Festival, and has been accepted for First Glance in Hollywood, CA, to be screened in December! As well, DigiFestival.net, an online digital film, new media, and music festival stationed in Italy, has chosen Dust of the Earth as one of it's featured documentaries and will be available for download August 15 through September 15, 2006. Congratulations to director Rebecca Rose and the crew on all the screenings and successes!

Happy 2006!

Wow, I didn't realize how long it's been since an update!

After a bit of a slow-down around Christmas, it's back to full speed as I dive headlong into new projects and ventures with my filmmaking friends and co-conspirators. This is going to be a stellar year, with much creativity, and - I predict - much success for all. There have been a couple of additions to my growing resume of film scores... I have also been focusing the majority of my energy into completing an alternative/electronic album I've had in the works for a while now - I'm VERY excited about this coming to fruition and being sent out into the Big Bad World to the ears of the masses - I think it's going to be a hit. Keep your eyes and ears posted - there WILL be FREE MP3s to be had, if you know where to find them! More info on that project VERY SOON.In other news, I will be entering the Turner Classic Movies Young Film Composers Competition, which is for the first time in it's 7 year run open to us Canucks up North!! I'm REALLY excited about this incredible opportunity - the Grand Prize Winner will receive $10,000 US, and will complete the score to the 1927 silent film 'The Show' - while - wait for it - while being mentored by none other than the great Hans Zimmer! I am itching to get started, excercise my chops in what will certainly be the most gruelling test of my abilities, and will challenge me to learn and perform like never before. This is such an endeavor and I intend to put so much into it that I will be keeping a diary of the process, which I will post links to here.Wish me luck!!Finally - A BIG HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to my good friend ETERNIA, who has been nominated for a JUNO for her debut album, "It's Called Life". For those of you who do not know, the JUNO is like Canada's Grammy Award, and one of the highest honours a musician can receive.

Congratulations to Eternia on her massively successful CD and Video launch, which happened last night at Dream Lounge! I had an amazing time performing live with her and beatboxer/producer supreme, Subliminal. Despite a last minute venue change and initial sound problems, the turnout was great, the performances memorable, the video looks incredible, and Muchmusic and other tv/radio stations of note were there to cover the event - as she would say, it was DOPE! Also, I got to hear some tracks from the new album, It's Called Life, before last fridays rehearsal, and it is amazing: if you like Hip Hop - a must have. If you do not yet know that you like Hip Hop, this will be the thing that makes you realize you do. I predict BIG THINGS for her this year, when this album drops - in stores OCTOBER 4th. Keep posted to her website for details, and keep watching your music TV station for the new video for the single, 'Evidence'.

September 9th, 2005

Looking forward to seeing a premiere of Vivieno Caldinelli's hilarious 'Greeksploitation' flick "Gyro Full of Dollars", which I had a blast writing additional orchestral, surf rock, and heavy metal tracks for! The Nicky Prince remix competition is in full swing: I am working on a reggae/dub-rock version of the song which, frankly, rocks thus far. Keep posted for details! Finally, I am very excited to announce my working with Ryan Edwards Communication on an exciting piece for Ryerson University's Chang School of Continuing Education, to premiere on September 21st. On that same night, incidentally, I will be supplying some very low frequencies when I play le bass guitare for an 'acoustic' set with a beatboxer at Eternia's CD/Video release party - Sugar Club, 57 Duncan St at 7 p.m. For details, check out her site at www.eternia.ca!! Low and lovin' it!

New Music Added!Check out some new and newly added music!

Upcoming: Vote for me in the upcoming 'Many Remixes Of' Competition, where I will have a chance to remix a track by UK Funk/Soul artist, Nicky Prince. It's another international competition where producers from around the world will be flexing their creative muscles to give the track a new flavor. I will post the details of the competition as they come - at this point the tracks have yet to be released. In the meantime, check out the website!

Third Place!! (tie)The results came in from the 2005 IndieClub Composer Competition a while ago, but I wanted to wait till the articles were posted before I shared the news. I am very proud to have placed third, tieing with Ron Meza. The entries were very good, and the winners are well deserving. I am in good company - the winners have scored work for NBC, ABC, and Fox amongst others, and have enviable CV's, so it's an honor just to place. Looking down this news list, I see that I am just shy of 2 months from my 1 year anniversary, so this is a great way to close what has been a great year!! Jordan Garren has posted the first of what will hopefully be a number of articles following up the competition, and interviewing the individual composers: http://www.roguecinema.com/article-298--0-0.html Check for updates in the coming months. Also, I am waiting excitedly for Unspeakable Magazines contribution! Thanks again to all involved in making this a great experience - Richard McClure, Mike Conway, all at Unspeakable Mag and Rogue Cinema, and all the contestants and winners - Congratulations!

April 28, 2005

The 2005 IndieClub Composer Competition is in full swing, with 16 of the original 28 composers posting their final work and the voting process underway. There are some great entries, and the competition is tight! The Canadian Filmmakers Festival was a big success, and the screening of Steep Decision was well received by a full house at the Carlton Cinemas. It was a wonderful weekend of celebration; thanks to all who attended the screening! I also had a chance to see the final screening of the graduating class at Humber College, where Shawn Neely's film 'Moonlit' was premiered. There is just a ton of talent coming out of that group this year, it was great to see their films. On May 14th, the graduating class from Ryerson's Image Arts Film School show their work at the Royal Cinema, where 'Dust of the Earth' will be screened.

Jordan Garren has written an excellent article covering the 2005 IndieClub Composer Competition for Rogue Cinema Magazine. Check it out, as well as all the other fantastic features at RC!!http://www.roguecinema.com/article248.html

Other News:

I am just wrapping up a score for Shawn Neely's werewolf thriller, 'Moonlit'. I will post some of that work soon, it was a lot of fun, and I think the score turned out very well. I am now beginning work on another film, entitled 'Dust of the Earth', a documentary about the nature of intelligence, creation, and AI by filmmaker Rebecca Rose. It's going to be a great film and I'm very excited about being a part of it.Finally, the competition is getting started in the 2005 IndieClub Composer Competition , which I helped organise on www.indieclub.com. Right now, the composers are voting on the clips which were submitted by members, and will then score them until the April 20th deadline, at which time the community at indieclub votes on their favorite! The top five will be interviewed in Unspeakable magazine, and Rogue Cinema! Wish me luck... there are some heavy hitters out there!! I am looking into making some changes to the web site, including the some things are organized, what clips are presented and how, and new photographs, so check back soon!

After a heavenly hiaitus in Hawai'i, I'm back, and things are really cooking. Infinity³ has quite a few things to celebrate - apart from receiving the "Best Technical Achievement" award for "Duplication Violation" at the One Minute Film and Video Festival, and being written up in the Oakville Beaver, they have (unofficially) launched websites for their production companies: www.jleaverpresentations.com, and www.infinity3.ca. I am keeping busy with a number of projects in the works - it looks as if 2005 will be a busy year!

October 21, 2004

More good news!Infinity³'s submissions to the One Minute Film and Video Festival (www.minutefilmfest.com) have been accepted and will be screened at the Bloor Cinema on Thursday, November 18, 2004. Congrat's to all involved!

September 29, 2004

Great news! On Monday, September 27th, we received word that Infinity³'s submission to the 48 hour film fest (Film 2880) placed third overall! Congratulations to all who worked on the film. Check the Film 2880 website soon for a complete selection of the films: apparantly, there were quite a few worthy submissions this year.

September 15, 2004

I've finally got film on my site!I've been working like nuts since the last post. There have been a couple of new shorts finished for Shawn Willings' and Jason Leaver's Infinity³ Productions, including the amazing 'Steep Decision', which was produced in a sheer 48 hours and submitted to the Film 2880 Festival (for you math challenged folks - 2880 minutes = 48 hours). I'm very pleased to continue to work as a member of Infinity³ Productions - they are a fantastic team. Now you can see these wonderful films for yourselves! Check it out at the Film Credits page, under Film Reels. Enjoy!

September 2, 2004

Last weekend had me put the finishing touches on a couple of 'mini-scores' - music for a couple of minute long shorts which are to be entered in the One Minute Film and Video Festival (http://www.minutefilmfest.com/), under the theme of 'Firsts'. "Stealing First" (dir. Shawn Willings, Jason Leaver) was shot, edited, dubbed within a whirlwind three days, but the result is wonderful. Again, as soon as I get my cold, clammy hands on the copies of these fine films, up they go! The next project I will be engaging on with this talented pair will be "Grey County", a zombie flick. Zombies are amazing; I can't wait.

August 25, 2004

Tien, the short about one woman's revenge on the Asian mafia, premiered on August 21, 2004, at Ryerson University. It was the final product of a lot of sweat and tears ( everyone managed to keep their blood inside their bodies!) and it was great to see it come together. It is currently being re-cut for submission to the "Emergeandsee" (www.emergeandsee.org) festival in Berlin, so I should have some clips to show in the near future. I will be posting updates to the site showcasing my favorite musical moments in the film, as well.

August 05, 2004

Currently, I am working on a couple of very exciting projects for some very talented directors. One short film is a dark comedy about a man and his bong... an evil and insidious bong! The other is a 20 minute short action flick - kind of an asian mafia/detective thriller/revenge theme in three parts, written and directed by three different people! I am having a terrific time with both of these productions and will post more details (and music) as they are available!
